Description:
Content: Folios 62-63. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to Thomas Day, Clerk to the Guardians of Bromsgrove Poor Law Union, in reply to his letter of 6 April 1841 enquiring whether, in the event of separate overseers being appointed for Redditch and Webheath in the parish of Tardebigge, there would be any objection by the Commission to the appointment of two guardians for Redditch. In the present state of the law they are unable to admit an addition to the number of guardians for any parish unless the consent of a majority of property owners and ratepayers is gained. However a clause is contained in the bill for the further amendment of the poor laws, now before Parliament, which would remove the obstruction. Should this clause become law, the Commission will be prepared to consider the propriety of increasing the number of guardians for Redditch. Paper Number: 4138/B/1841. Poor Law Union Number 526. Counties: Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire.
