Description:
Content: Folio 34. Draft letter from the Poor Law Commission to Thomas Day, Clerk to the Guardians of Bromsgrove Poor Law Union, in reply to his letter of 17 February 1841. As Mr Laughton [Joseph Laughton] was appointed as Assistant Overseer in vestry and received his warrant from the justices he is to be considered as the holder of the post until he resigns or the appointment is revoked in vestry. As the sum to be paid to him is £14 a year, only that amount may be paid to him from the rates of the parish. As he had been paid £40 a year and then £20 a year under an order of the Commission, once he had resigned the office to the guardians he was not entitled to receive any more from their hands. He may now only receive £14 from the vestry. Subjoined is a draft letter from the Commission to Alfred Power, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner, enclosing a copy of the letter to Day. Paper Number: 1808/B/1841. Poor Law Union Number 526. Counties: Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire.
