Description:
Content: Folios 71-72. Letter from Charles Denny to E Chadwick, Secretary to the Poor Law Commission. He states that having been discharged by the guardians of the Blything Poor Law Union because the charges he brought against the governor were dismissed, he asks for an independent inquiry and a re-establishment of his reputation. He outlines the charges brought against the governor. These include not supplying sufficient meat, watering the milk and disposing of fowl. He feels justice was not done by Sir Thomas Gooch, the Chairman, and felt aggrieved at having to leave the workhouse. He begs the commissioners to consider his letter and will give any further information if required. Kay [James Philip Kay, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner] suggests that a copy of this letter should be forwarded to the board of guardians and that the board should be requested to furnish the Commission with any observations they may have, 26 June 1837.
