Content: Folios 91-92. Letter from James Robinson Tomlin, Clerk to the Guardians of Reeth Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board, acknowledging their letter of 15 July [1854] and stating that they retain confidence in the master of the Reeth workhouse [William Hills] following the alleged cruelty to the inmate Swithenbank [Swinbank]. They cast doubt on the reliability of the witnesses, James Peacock, Ann Peacock and others, stating that they had personal grievances against the master. Previous to the enquiry by Mr Hurst [Norman Edward Hurst, Poor Law Inspector], the Reeth Board had dealt with the matter and cautioned Hills.
