| Folios 69-73. Letter from Joseph Lowndes, Vestry Clerk, Wolstanton, to the Poor Law Commission, enclosing a memorial from the churchwardens, overseers of the poor, vicar, select vestry and other principal rate payers etc. attending to parochial business objecting to the proposed union. Satisfaction with the state of parish affairs over past 20 years was expressed and still better management anticipated under rules of the Commission, but union with any other parish would be detrimental to the 12 townships of Thursfield, Wedgwood, Stadmonslow, Brieryhurst, Oldcott, Ranscliff, Tunstall, Chell, Wolstanton, Chatterley, Chesterton, Knutton already in the parish covering 16½ square miles. The population has increased from 8572 in 1821 to an estimated 13,900. The memorialists are anxious to avoid dispute and conflict with their 'manufacturing neighbours' and thus to remain an independent authority as Stoke upon Trent has been so designated which 'comes nearest their own case'.
