Description:

1 collective petition (10 people, yeomen from parish of Broad Chalke, Wiltshire) on behalf of Levi Browne [Levi Brown], 37 years, labourer, convicted at the Wiltshire Special Assizes in December 1830, for robbery [riot and insubordination]. There is also a covering letter from G Augustus Montgomery, Lord Radnor enclosing petition dated 12 January 1831. Grounds for clemency: previous good character - hardworking, honest, industrious and very sober, first offence, always been quiet and well behaved, came into this present situation without any ill design and is a respectable father. Initial sentence: not stated, commuted to 14 years transportation. GP 41
