Report of Robert Alderson on 1 collective petition (61 people of Ipswich including the prisoners mothers) on behalf of Mary Flory and Ann Long, alias Elizabeth Byles, convicted at the Ipswich Borough Quarter Sessions April 1827 for shoplifting. Letters from Robert Dundas and C Gross, town clerk of Ipswich are also included. Grounds for clemency: this was the prisoners' first offence; they were young and had been 'enticed away through bad characters'. Sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: no mercy. Folios 31-37.
