Description:

Miscellaneous papers relating to the admission of attorneys and solicitors to practise.

They include some articles of clerkship for the Court of King's Bench and the King's Bench Division from 1827 to 1884, the main series of which, formerly in KB 104, has been destroyed; articles of clerkship and affidavits of due execution of articles of clerkship relating to Chancery from between 1801 and 1875; various testimonials of due service of articles of clerkship, on preprinted forms issued by the Law Society, with occasional items of related correspondence, and various applications to the High Court concerning articled clerks and solicitors, including applications to enter articles of clerkship out of time, for clerks to be admitted as attorneys without giving the requisite notice, to take the preliminary examination early, to be admitted despite irregularities in the service of articles, applications to hold minor offices, and to renew lapsed certificates to practise; and orders to strike off from or restore names to the roll of solicitors (1875 to 1888).
