Date: 1945-1953
History: Established following an Act in April 1945; previously a separate department within the Air Ministry had dealt with civil aviation. Its primary duty was the encouragement and development of British civil aviation. In October 1953 it was merged into the new Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
