Court of Augmentations and Court of General Surveyors: Legal Proceedings
The records of the Court of Augmentations and the Court of General Surveyors acting in their judicial capacity, resolving disputes relating to the Crown lands and revenues, particularly those of the former religious houses and chantries, in their charge.
Procedure was by 'English bill', the same as equity proceedings in Chancery and the Exchequer equity court. The series thus includes bills and informations, answers, replications, rejoinders, depositions, interrogatories, and decrees of the court. A few receipts signed by individuals receiving payments from the Treasurer of the Court of Augmentations may also be found.
Court of General Surveyors, 1542-1547
