Description: |
Folios 135-142. Letter from Bedlington, [County Durham], parish vicar, to Lord John Russell, [Home Secretary], reporting a Chartist meeting. States that Bedlington is unprotected from Chartist intimidation because there is no resident magistrate, and the parish constables are 'useless'. Includes a letter from Henry Cronin, Chairman of the Bedlington Democratic Reform Association, to Bedlington parish vicar, demanding an explanation for the actions of Mr Wardle, Parish Sexton, in tearing down a handbill from the church notice board that was publicising a Chartist meeting to petition the Queen for the passing of the People's Charter. |
