Correspondence of the Tithe Commission concerned with proceedings for the commutation of tithes.
There is no tithe file relating to any City parish or liberty within the walls except St Leonard, Foster Lane because all payments in lieu of tithes within the City were expressly excluded from the provisions of the Tithe Commutation Act 1836.
Some of the files comprise only the file cover, due to 'weeding' in the early twentieth century, before their arrival at the Public Record Office. However, the file cover may be annotated with information such as whether all tithes in the parish were merged.
