Description: |
Prince Eugene to Count Sinzendorf: his sorrow at the death of the emperor [Joseph I]. The bearer, Baron von Hohendorff, will tell him more. He is sending a copy of a letter from Count Wratislaw, because until now he has had no orders from the empress mother. He is approaching Mainz, and hopes to continue the same day to the upper Rhine. He will soon be at The Hague, visiting the courts of the three Rhine electors [Mainz, Trier and Palatine] on the way. [Later, at Mainz:] he has spoken to the elector, whom he finds well-intentioned. The elector is writing to his fellow-electors, calling on them to assemble at Frankfurt in three months time. Seckendorff is there recruiting troops for the corps of neutrality, and threatens to withdraw their troops and the Danes. Seckendorff and the imperial court are against expediting the march of the troops, but Eugene thinks the army should be assembled. Dated at Mainz. ff. 77, 78 |
