Marlborough to the duke of Savoy: he apologizes for the delay in replying. He has sent Palmes to London to acquaint the queen and the duke's ministers with his wishes, which he thinks she will support. The need for augmentation of the troops, as the French will bring fifty-one battalions and fifty-two squadrons to the low countries from the Rhine and the Dauphiné for the next campaign. The coming campaign should lead to a favourable peace, and Marlborough engages to attend to the duke's interests. Dated at The Hague. ff. 270, 271 |
