Description: |
Marlborough to Prince Eugene of Savoy: he has only that morning received a reply from England on the subject of the 4,000 infantry for Spain. The queen will pay 20 crowns for every infantryman embarked provided it is done as soon as possible. He is writing in the same post to Chetwynd to expedite the embarkation in Turin and asks Eugene to keep sending orders. Admiral Leake was at Lisbon on 7 April and should now be well into the Mediterranean. Marlborough is leaving next day for Flanders and will try to assemble the army by 17 May. The enemy are quiet, and Vendôme has not yet left Paris. It is said that the duke of Burgundy will command on this front. The ten battalions have arrived at Ostend but not the horses and clothing. Dated at The Hague. ff. 28, 29 |
