Title: Ministry of Technology and successors: Electronics, Telecommunications and Instrumentation Division, Electronics (L2) Branch: Registered Files (LU Series)
Description:

The earliest papers in these files were created by the Ministry of Technology's (Mintech) Electronics Appraisal Group. By December 1965, this unit had become the Electronics Branch (L2) of the Electronics and Instrumentation Division, and it was for the L2 Branch that the LU file series was raised, but papers from the EA file series of the Electronic Appraisal Group were re-registered into it.

After 1971, the LU series continued in use in the Computers, Systems and Electronics. After August 1980, the LU series continued in use for a few months in the Information Technology Division before passing to the Electronics Applications Division.

The files deal with the development of the microelectronics industry, technical appraisal and sponsorship of firms involved in the industry. They also cover sponsorship of the computer industry and co-ordination of research and development into computer hardware. There are additionally files relating to the Advanced Computer Technology Project (ACTP), including meetings of the ACTP Advisory Committee.
