Title: Exchequer: Lord Treasurer's Remembrancer's Office: Commissions to take Oaths of Sheriffs, Clerks of the Peace and Other Officers
Description:

This series consists of commissions, with form of oath annexed, issuing from the Lord Treasurer's Remembrancer's Office to named persons to take the oaths of sheriffs who have not appeared at their due day at the Exchequer, that they should swear to render faithful accounts; or to take the oaths of clerks of the peace, or assize, who are in arrears with their returns of estreats of fines, that they will do so by a date specified in the commission. The commissions are essentially retrospective and concerned with obtaining the render of accounts at the Exchequer after the close of the accounting periods.

Commissions to take the oaths of Welsh sheriffs at the commencement of their period of office include declarations of Supremacy and are wider in their terms of reference.
