Catalogue description Exchequer: Augmentation Office: Particulars of Concealments

When the monasteries and chantries were dissolved, the Crown failed to acquire control of all the property which had belonged to the dissolved foundations. This was partly due to deliberate concealment.

The records in this series consist chiefly of commissions and inquisitions into concealments and a large number of views of accounts. These give the location and value of newly discovered concealed lands, together with details of the commission or survey by which the lands were discovered, the name of the person who sued it out, and the name of the office in the Exchequer held the original commission and return.
