Miscellaneous volumes which accumulated in the Exchequer of Pleas, including several lengthy series. These include writ books, 1616-1723, recording the issue of writs, the principal one being quominus, and naming the county, the party for whom the writ was issued and against whom, the date for its return, and the name of the attorney at whose instance it was issued. Ledger books, 1832-1881, record the payment of monies into court; there is an earlier similar series of account books from 1690 to 1775. New trial books, 1848-1880, record the procedures involved in overturning the result of a trial and obtaining a new one. There are also outlawry books, 1833-1869, giving details of the stages of process leading to the outlawry of defaulting parties; a formula book of pleadings c.1710; and a book of interpleader orders, 1837-1849, under the act of 1831, which records the dates for the appearance of the parties for the matter to be settled. |
