Title: Office of Woods, Forests and Land Revenues and successors: General Department and successors: Registered Files
Description:

This series, despite appearing from its date range to start in 1743, in fact contains several series of registered files dating from the mid nineteenth century onwards. All the series seem to have been the responsibility of the General Branch or Department of the Office of Woods, Forests and Land Revenues and successors. The files contain correspondence, minutes, etc on general questions on the management of Crown lands, including the transfer of lands and responsibilities to the Forestry Commission.

The series on fee farm rents tends to contain more specific information, including several files on the Pendrell pension, awarded in perpetuity to the Pendrell or Penderel family for the help they gave in assisting the escape of Charles II after the Battle of Worcester in 1651. There is also a survey of perpetual pensions still payable in 1832: CRES 36/188.

The only eighteenth century files the series contains are two files in the series relating to fee farm rents (CRES 36/168 and CRES 36/169).

For information on the appraisal and selectiondecisions applied to records in this series see Operational Selection Policy OSP 2, The Crown Estate, 1975-1985.
