This series contains the minutes and agenda of the North East Welfare Committee and its predecessors. There are also examples of minutes and agenda papers of sub-committees specially set up to deal with specific subjects such as the Medico Social Services Sub-Committee, Co-ordinating Committee for Youth, Finance and General Purposes Sub-Committee; and examples of regional year books together with selected National Annual Reports.

Some of the files in the series were produced by several charities which are not covered by the Public Record Act but which the Trustees have kindly made available.

Selection and destruction information: Many of the files between 1952-1966 on the supervision of welfare are entitled the Northern Division Welfare Committee or the Durham Division Welfare Committee, with examples of the minutes and agenda papers of selected areas within those divisions for specific periods.
Administrative / biographical background:

The Northumberland Area Miners Welfare Trust Fund, and the Durham Area Miners Welfare Trust Fund were established to receive the sale proceeds of former welfare provision on charitable application (namely miners' recreation schemes). The establishment of these charities represents the recycling of former welfare provision and following the merger of Northern and Durham areas in terms of Welfare Committees the two charities merged to form the North East Area Miners Welfare Trust Fund.
