The Law Committee was formed in 1942 to advise on the methods by which British legal systems and the profession might become better known abroad; to form contacts between members of the legal profession of this and other countries; and to look after the educational and cultural welfare of foreign lawyers in the United Kingdom. In 1947, its title was changed to the Law Advisory Committee.
