In 1948 the Books and Periodicals Committee became the Books and Periodicals Advisory Panel. In 1959 a new British Books Overseas Advisory Committee was formed to advise the British Council on how to counter the perceived threat posed by the distribution, especially in South-East Asia, of Chinese and Russian produced books in English. |
