Administrative / biographical background: |
The Simplification of International Trade Procedures Board (SITPRO) was created in May 1970 and met for the first time on 1 July 1970. Its role was to study commercial and governmental documentation and procedures in international and domestic trade, and to make recommendations to assist the more efficient flow of trade. In 1988 it became the Simpler Trade Procedures Board, an independent agency supported by the Department of Trade and Industry. It retained its original objectives but also took on a new role to make British companies more competitive in world trade by attacking red tape, by developing technical skills and by encouraging the use of information technology in the trading distribution and payment processes. The Public Records (Designation of Bodies) Order 2003 made the Simpler Trade Procedures Board a public record body. |
