Administrative / biographical background:

The Health Finance Division was created with its parent body the Health and Social Work Department in April 1973. It was retitled in April 1976 as the Health Management and Personnel Division under the same parent department. On 1 April 1985 a new parent body was created, the National Health Service Directorate, and it was duly retitled the Health Financial Management Division. It continued under this title under a new parent body the Welsh Office Health Department (WOHD) from 1 April 1997 to 1999 when the Welsh Office was finally disbanded.

The main function of all the above Divisions was the financial management of the Welsh National Health Service.
