This series covers the period from 1966 to 1991 and includes registered files (IR and PR series) of the Information Research Department (IRD - closed in 1977) concerning the provision of anti-communist information via British overseas missions and posts and other outlets. The series covers the relationship between IRD and other government departments such as the Ministry of Defence and the Central Office of Information, as well as the BBC, and IRD's relations with Western European governments including the United States. This series also contains later publications produced by FCO departments which succeeded IRD.
