Administrative / biographical background:

The Safety, Pesticides and Infestation Control Division was created in 1970 bringing together staff responsible for licensing pesticides and ensuring they were used in a safe and proper manner. This remit was expanded in 1974, when the Division became part of the Environmental Pollution, Pesticides and Infestation Control Division, which also encompassed all other areas of environmental pollution and infestation control. In 1984 these functions passed to the Environment Co-ordination Unit which became the Environmental and Conservation Policy Division in 1986.
