Prices and Incomes Policy Division was set up in 1973 to handle arrangements for briefing ministers on the Counter-Inflation Bill which became law. Its areas of responsibility were broadened in 1974 to cover pay, productivity agreements in the public sector, dividends and share incentives schemes. Under the 1975 reorganisation of the Treasury the division was renamed Counter-Inflation Group (CI) and became a part of the Domestic Economy Sector. It took the lead on pay policy and all matters affecting prices. |
