Administrative / biographical background:

The Safety, Pesticides and Infestation Control Division was created in 1972. Its responsibilities included policy on issues relating to safety, the use of pesticides and the control of pests and vermin in agriculture. It was also responsible for the administration of those schemes which implemented MAFF policy in these areas.
