Description: |
The maps in this series are the one-inch maps of Ireland prepared by the Ordnance Survey Office, Dublin, following a Treasury decision, in the face of weighty opposition, in favour of a one-inch survey of Ireland, 1851-1852. The Bonne projection was accepted, with an origin near Athlone at 8° W and 53½° N. All sheets are initialled MS, hence they were probably a record set. The material in this series is non record material originally held in the Library. |
