This series contains various series of accounts of the Office of Works.

Accounts, ordinary and extraordinary, 1660 to 1703, record payments to tradesmen and others for works at various royal palaces and other buildings, including Whitehall, Hampton Court, the Tower, St James's, Greenwich, Westminster, Newmarket, Nonsuch House, Audley End, Denmark House and the Custom House.

Abstracts of accounts, 1709 to 1788, show the sums expended, to whom paid and the work done.

Accounts of work, 1778 to 1814, contain similar information to the ordinary and extraordinary accounts and include in addition accounts of works at Richmond, Kew, Kensington, Winchester and Bushey Park, and on Carlton House, the Rolls House and Chapel, and the Fleet and King's Bench prisons.

Debt Books, 1727 to 1832, contain quarterly accounts of the salaries, compensations and expenses of the Office of Works, with the Treasury warrants of approval.

Cashier's accounts, 1815 to 1832, are general and special accounts, including those for the Civil List, Parliamentary grants, Exchequer offices, Woods and Forests, and furniture.

The series also includes accounts of extra grants of Parliament, 1825 to 1827; abstracts of debts, 1767 to 1832; Paymaster's annual accounts, 1706 to 1782; Custom House, London, building and furniture accounts, 1812 to 1815; contracts, 1668 to 1774; miscellaneous accounts, 1720 to 1843; abstracts of cash payments, 1850 to 1867; main ledgers, 1851 to 1854; extract receipts and appropriations-in-aid, 1867 to 1901; annual reports of the Commissioners of Woods, etc, 1829 to 1851; bridge accounts (Westminster, 1739 to 1767, Menai and Conway 1833 to 1863); Aberdeen County and Municipal Buildings, Clerk's accounts, 1874 to 1877; and various Treasury returns and notes on accounting procedures.

WORK 5/6, 8, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28 and 31 partly duplicate WORK 5/5, 7, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27 and 30 respectively.
