Title: Secretaries of State: State Papers Ireland, Mary I
Description:

Correspondence and papers relating to the government of Ireland during the reign of Mary I. The records include letters to and from the Queen and the Privy Council and the Queen's Secretaries (mainly Dr John Boxall), as well as despatches from the Crown's representative in Ireland (the Lord Deputy), his Council in Ireland, and other officials. Some of the papers after the Queen's marriage to Philip of Spain in 1554 are sent from, or sent to, the King and Queen. The series includes petitions, draft letters, instructions, reports and miscellaneous papers.

Date: 1553-1558
Arrangement:

The papers were rearranged and rebound into a chronological sequence by the State Paper Office in the nineteenth century, preparatory to the publication of its calendars. This rearrangement was carried so far that enclosures, in order that they might be placed in correct date order, were often separated from their accompanying letter. The arrangement of the series has not changed, however, since the publication of the list for the series 1914.
