Details of SC 4
Reference: SC 4
Title: Special Collections: Deeds: Crown Grants
Description:

Original letters patent vesting in trustees the fee-farm rents reserved on Crown grants, and indentures concerning the jointure of Catherine of Braganza, consort of Charles II. Most of the documents are decorated with engraved or illuminated portraits of Charles II, and, in one instance, of Catherine. Also an amended lease to Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough, John, Duke of Marlborough, and John, Duke of Montagu, of land in St James, Westminster, formerly part of Catherine's jointure. Most of the grants are in a formal chancery hand in the form of letters patent.

None of the documents carries a modern indication of archival origin, though it seems probable that the record origin of all the documents was the Office of the Auditors of Land Revenue.
