Administrative / biographical background:

Directorate of Telecommunications was responsible for the planning, development, procurement, installation and maintenance of communications systems for the emergency services. Responsibility passed to the Police Information Technology Organisation in 1998 and then in 2007 to the National Police Improvement Agency. In 2012 all its functions were transferred to the Home Office, Serious Organised Crime Agency and the College of Policing.
