Administrative / biographical background:

The Pig and Bacon Division was created in 1974 when the Meat Directorate was divided into three separate divisions, comprising Pig and Bacon Division, Beef Division and Sheep and Livestock Subsidies Division. In 1975 the directorate was renamed 'Meat, Poultry and Eggs' with 3 divisions being Pig and Poultry Products Division, Beef Division and Sheep and Livestock Subsidies Division. 1n 1985 Pig and Poultry Products Division was renamed Pigs, Eggs and Poultry Division and was responsible for creation of records in this series.
