The Industrial Policy Group was created under the Domestic Economy Sector in 1981. The Industrial Policy Group had two Divisions: the Employment and Pay Division covering public sector pay and pensions, expenditure on employment and training measures. The Industrial Economics Division which covered industrial policy and its relation to general economic policy. The Conservative Government policy for industry from 1979 to 1997 was characterised as a 'laissez faire' approach which had the effect of reducing nationalised industries of the 1960s and 1970s and encourging private industries. |
