Title: Ordnance Survey: Boundaries Branch: Boundary Record Sheets: Six-Inch and 1:10,000 National Grid
Description:

This series consists of printed Ordnance Survey maps used to record local authority, parliamentary (including European parliamentary constituencies from 1978) and parish boundaries and boundary changes. The boundary record was added in colour-coded lines and washes, which were updated with each boundary change. Obsolete boundaries were cancelled, their colours being washed down to a faint trace, but still clearly indicated on the maps. The titles of relevant acts, orders etc appear on the maps.

Maps dated before 1974 (England and Wales) or 1975 (Scotland) show boundaries taken from the following list: geographical counties, administrative counties, county boroughs, counties of cities, London boroughs, municipal boroughs, urban districts, rural districts, district council areas, rural boroughs, civil parishes, wards of county boroughs, burghs and urban districts, county and borough/burgh constituencies, and City of London Inner and Middle Temples.

Maps coloured after the above dates show boundaries taken from the following list: national, counties, unitary authorities, regions, island areas, districts, London boroughs, civil parishes (not shown in Scotland), communities (in Wales), electoral divisions of counties and unitary authorities, wards of unitary authorities and London boroughs and districts, European constituencies and regions, county and borough/burgh constituencies, parliamentary constituencies (Scotland), parliamentary electoral regions (Scotland), assembly regions (Wales), assembly constituencies (Wales), City of London Inner and Middle Temples, Greater London authority and Greater London assembly constituency.

All administrative names are underlined in the same colour as that used to indicate the boundary line.

Arrangement:

To identify a required map from the catalogue, it is first necessary to have an Ordnance Survey National Grid reference. By matching the prefix and the first and third numbers of a four-figure National Grid reference against the sheet number in the catalogue, the required piece number can be found. This system provides accuracy to within ten kilometres.
