Title: Ordnance Survey: Boundaries Branch: Journals of Inspection
Description:

This series consists of bound volumes of forms documenting the public inspection of the original boundary sketch maps, field sketch maps and boundary remark books in terms of the public boundaries ascertained under the provisions of the Ordnance Survey Act 1841: these forms were known as journals of inspection.

Most of the journals contain a copy of the formal notice announcing the public display of the sketch maps, together with press cuttings advertising the exhibition. They include the names and addresses of persons who inspected the maps, a record of which parts of the sketch maps were inspected, any plans with which they were compared (together with their date and nature), any differences found and the results of investigations into such differences. Some journals contain small scale maps showing the areas covered by the sketch maps being inspected.

Each volume includes a list of the parishes to which it relates.

The journals relate mostly to places in England and Wales; few have survived for Scotland.
