Administrative / biographical background:

When the Post Office Savings Department became the Department for National Savings (DNS) in 1969, policy files were generated by its Savings Policy Branch. In 1983 this Branch was renamed Procedure and General Branch and in 1986 the name was changed again to Procedure and Central Branch. It is part of Procedure and Legal Department, but also performs a registry function for the separate Central Department. DNS's Central Department formulates policies, and Procedure and Legal Department considers methods of implementation.
