Administrative / biographical background:

The Welsh Board of Health was wound up in 1969 and many of its functions were passed to the newly formed Community Health Division of the Welsh Office. In 1971, the division changed its name to the Community Health and Welfare Division. It was wound up in 1973, following the re-organisation of the National Health Service in that year.
