Files relate to estimates and forecasts of national food expenditure and assessments of information on food supplies and utilisation, and draw heavily on information gained from the National Food Survey.

The Food Economics Unit of Statistics Division II worked on matters relating to national food expenditure, demand, supply and consumption forecasts and estimates between 1965 and 1984, with special emphasis on food processing and distribution in the UK and, after the UK's accession to the European Communities, the EEC. The work of the unit passed to the Economics and Statistics (Food) Division in 1984.
