Description:

The series deals with the compilation and analysis of statistics produced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and its predecessors on the output and value of the national farm product, estimates and forecasts of production and the collation of material and co-ordination of statistics for Annual and Special Reviews. Included in these papers are examples of the methods of calculation, analysis of trends in agricultural production and policy considerations on the expansion of agriculture. Some files also concern the annual agricultural census, supplies of feedingstuffs, fertilisers and farm labour.

Administrative / biographical background:

The Agricultural Economics Unit was responsible for the preparation of the economic and financial statistics required for Annual and Special Reviews, for providing statistics and intelligence service for the divisions concerned with price guaranteed commodities and certain other products (eg feeding-stuffs). It also collaborated in investigations into problems arising in the course of the work of the Education and Advisory Services Division, including the provision and collation of statistical and accountancy material, and maintained a liaison with other government departments on economic and statistical matters (eg estimates of national income and expenditure, capital investment).
