Administrative / biographical background:

The Agricultural Land Commission was created under s68 of the Agriculture Act 1947, its function being to manage all farming land vested in the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, and to advise and assist him in matters relating to the management of agricultural land generally. It was dissolved in December 1963, when its functions were taken over by the Estate Management Committee of the ministry's Agricultural Land Service.
