Administrative / biographical background:

The Regional Administration Group was responsible for the Ministry of Food's regional organisation and for enforcement work. The United Kingdom was divided into seventeen Divisional Food Areas which under later re-organisation were renamed Regions. Each was in the charge of a Regional Food Officer whose function was to enforce the policy of the ministry and to be responsible for the local Food Offices in his Region.

The Headquarters Division concerned was responsible for the general administrative control of the regional and local offices and for liaison with local Food Control Committees which had been set up under the Food Control Committee (Constitution) Order S.R.O. 1943 No 1304 to represent the interests of local consumers and provide a channel of communication between the Ministry and the buying public.
