Description: | Metropolitan Police file regarding John Roger McVICAR: papers in respect of his escape from Durham Prison on 29 October 1968 and his subsequent re-arrest; contains letter written to the Home Secretary by McVicar expressing fear for his safety on arrest; also contains papers regarding McVicar's criminal records and previous convictions; also concerning his associate Ronald DARK (or DARKE) and Shirley McVICAR (alias Shirley WILSHIRE), including international police enquiries relating to McVicar and Dark. File also includes later papers (1986) drawn together in respect of a confidential enquiry against McVicar with a view to institution of criminal proceedings against McVicar for malicious allegation of corruption against certain police officers (prosecution not initiated). |
