Papers relating to Bills sponsored by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government and its predecessors from 1871, including measures concerning local government, housing, rating and valuation, town and country planning, water resources, environmental pollution, new towns and national parks. The volumes contain correspondence with government departments, local authorities and others, draft bills, notes on clauses, amendments and memoranda.
The series also contains a report from the Poor Law Commission to the Home Secretary, 1840; administrative papers of the Poor Law Commission and Board and their successors not directly relating to proposed legislation; and three volumes (pieces 260-262) relating to the consideration of poor law reform, dating from 1909 to 1927, which were left behind by Thomas (later Sir Thomas) Sheepshanks, as a private secretary at the Ministry of Health.
