This series contains records of the Far Eastern Department of the Foreign Office to October 1968 dealing with UK relations with China, Taiwan, Macao, Japan, Korea, and Mongolia from January 1967. The records for this period also cover Foreign Office correspondence on Commonwealth interests in the far east and south Asia. From October 1968, the records are those of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Far Eastern Department, whose responsibilities also included external relations of Hong Kong (internal affairs being managed by a separate Hong Kong Department).
