Ministry of Home Security: Key Points Intelligence Directorate: Reports and Papers
Reports compiled by the Ministry of Home Security from information received in the Home Security War Room and passed on to other ministries concerned with either active or civil defence. They contain details of air raid damage to factories, public utilities, service establishments, buildings, etc. of national importance. The series also includes papers containing general assessments and reviews of the enemy attacks on key points and of various defence measures.
The Key Points Intelligence Directorate originated in the Intelligence Section of the Camouflage Branch of the Air Ministry, where it compiled a list of vital industries on which to base the defence of those industries. It was transferred with its parent branch in September 1939 and became operational as the Key Points Intelligence Branch. It compiled and distributed information about damage at vital factories, public utilities, railway centres and other particularly important locations. It was designated a directorate in September 1942.
