Papers on the constitution, minutes of meetings and general papers of the Standing Joint Committee on Standard Scales of Salaries for Teachers (later known as the Burnham Committee).

These files also contain and papers of similar committees which were subsequently established to deal with the salaries of teachers in secondary and technical schools, technical and training colleges and farm institutes.

In addition the series contains departmental policy papers on teachers' salaries.

The records are formed from Salaries Branch general files, a small number of local education authority files, private office papers transferred to that branch after weeding but retaining their separate identity, and some unregistered papers.
