Administrative / biographical background:

The Research Section was established in 1943 as part of the Ministry of Town and Country Planning's Regional Planning Office in Cardiff. The section, like those at other regional offices of the ministry, consisted of a number of planners and research officers who provided technical advice and information to both local authorities and the headquarters of the ministry in London.
